We wish you a merry Christmas! We wish you a merry Christmas! We wish you a merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
We can all look back on 2020 with hindsight, but this is a time to reflect as we focus forward. This Holiday season generally celebrates peace, family and joy, but the “normal” non vegan traditions for celebrating these holy holidays come at a high karmic cost; especially as we toast to the new year at the dinner table.
For example, on Thanksgiving approximately 46 million turkeys are slaughtered yearly, only in the United States; for Christmas, another 22 million are killed. Pigs, chickens, cows, lambs, fish and other sentient beings are the victims of this massive scale slaughter, solely for the purpose of being served on holiday tables. If you think about it, it’s quite odd to celebrate peace and joy with seasoned dead bodies on the table.
The total count for all animals killed this year, in the US alone, is more than 55 billion animals, more than 6 billion for the UK, plus 5 billion in Canada and more than 4 billion in Australia. These numbers are staggering and alarming. (All animal slaughter stats can be checked in real time at www.animalclock.org/ ) This does not even consider the millions to billions more baby male chick animals killed during chicken culling because they don’t seem to even count as animals as they are grind alive from the moment they hatch. It’s as if their time on this planet was so short they don’t even make the clock count. Think about that as we count down to the New Year!
What can you do about it?
Think about what the holidays really mean to you. Consider if you’re living a life of integrity. Are your actions aligned with your heart? Peace begins on your plate. As you join hands at the table to pray and rejoice, consider the food you are rejoicing over. One person can make a difference with every bite, purchase, conversation, and choice counts.
This holiday season, do your best to keep it vegan! Whether you’re preparing a holiday meal, or buying presents for underneath the Christmas tree — buy vegan and support cruelty-free consumerism. It’s time to change the world, and change begins within and with you. How can you be sure? Look for the BeVeg certified vegan trademark on product packaging!
Show the world the love inside of you. Let them taste the beauty of veganism with you. Share in the joy of the season with a meal that’s decadently vegan.
